The Only One Who Doesn't Burn

Clay & Peril · 4:14 · Duets Track 3

Everyone she ever touched, she hurt. He's the only dragon who doesn't burn — and he'd have stayed even if he did.

The third of the Duets, and the answer to Born in the Burning: Peril was raised as a weapon in Queen Scarlet's arena and taught that everything she touched, she ruined. Clay is the one dragon in Pyrrhia her firescales cannot hurt — and what the song actually finds is that the immunity was never the reason he stayed. Her half of the mix is fire and strings, his is guitar and river mud, and the two don't share a sound until the chorus. Listen for the word "warm". It comes back.
